Optimizing Knowledge-Work through Personal Knowledge Management: The Role of Individual Knowledge-Workers’ Motivation, Ability, and Opportunity
Publication overview
Knowledge management succeeds when people are willing and able to create, share, and apply what they know. Drawing on a survey of 350 university employees, this chapter examines how motivation, ability, and opportunity relate to these activities. Motivation emerges as the strongest direct predictor, while employees with high levels of all three demonstrate the greatest knowledge-work engagement. For HR professionals and organizational leaders, the study supports a coordinated approach to development, incentives, and work design—creating conditions in which individual expertise can contribute more effectively to organizational learning and performance.
